So, at Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital, we believe in developing the human-animal bond with excellent veterinary medicine and by providing a comfortable, welcoming experience for every pet. Our hospital has been well-established since 1962, purchased by the current owner in 1996, and moved to a newly built hospital in 2003. Our state-of-the-art practice operates 7 days a week with a team of 5 skilled veterinarians and a passionate, talented support staff who make you feel like a part of the family.

We require our candidates to be either a Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician. If you do not hold these titles we would require at least 2 years experience as a Veterinary Technician or 4 years as a Veterinary Technician assistant.

Ability to demonstrate mastery of all routine technician skills such as:

  • Client Communication/Education
  • Animal Handling/Catheter Placement/Injections
  • Assist Veterinarians/Exam Room Protocol
  • Laboratory/Digital Radiography/Ultrasound/Laser Therapy Procedures
  • Medication Preparation
  • Surgical Assistance/Hospitalized Patient Care
  • Safety Protocols and Cleaning Standards
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and more with assistance
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as patient charts, vaccine histories, medical labels, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before small groups of customers or employees of the hospital
  • Ability to successfully communicate with diverse personality types
  • Ability to quickly grasp and master technological advancements in computer performance/electronic methods of veterinary care and practice

This position will require mostly day shifts, however some nights, and weekend availability is a must.

Applicants must demonstrate a desire to continue learning in veterinary medicine, care, and office skills. Proficiency with the Internet, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and ImproMed preferred.

We started a Community Client Care program. This program helps disabled and elderly locals who have difficulty taking care of their pets by offering our services and paying a portion or all of their vet bill, discounted or free grooming, discounted or free food, and/or discounted or free pet retail products.

Our county borders three neighboring states, New York, Vermont, and Connecticut. Two of these neighboring states can be seen right down the road from our practice at the top of Mount Greylock, the highest natural point in Massachusetts, at 3,492 feet. The Berkshires also have numerous trails, including part of the Appalachian Trail, large tracts of wilderness and parks, the Berkshire Botanical Garden, and the Hebert Arboretum. The south county area includes Bash Bish Falls, the tallest waterfall in Massachusetts.
